From 22 to 27 June, Pettorano sul Gizio will once again transform into a film set for an entire week, hosting the second edition of KinoAppennino, organised by Rewilding Apennines. Film professionals and enthusiasts will come together to produce short films of every genre in record time, giving priority to the strong bond between nature and culture that the village perfectly embodies.

The sound of clapperboards, repeated takes, film crews moving between numerous and varied locations, cameras and other equipment, groups of locals following the scenes and taking part as actors or production assistants… These are the hallmarks of KinoAppennino for anyone visiting Pettorano sul Gizio from 22 to 27 June. Every alley, every view, every natural backdrop comes alive to tell a story, in Italian, in English or in another language. Conveying messages through the short film format is one of the most effective ways to reach a wide audience in an immediate, engaging and far-reaching way.
Rewilding Apennines makes use of a variety of communication formats to raise awareness about ecosystem protection and restoration, rewilding, and the benefits the organisation’s actions bring to people. Given the positive feedback from both the public and participants of the first edition of KinoAppennino last year, the organisation has enthusiastically put together this new edition to promote the union between cinema and nature, art and rewilding, cultural exchange and local community engagement.

Around 40 registered participants will take part in KinoAppennino, coming from numerous European countries as well as from Italy. Directors, camera operators, sound technicians, actors and actresses, production assistants, writers and screenwriters: this is the range of professionals at the service of KinoAppennino. The event follows the now well-established kinokabaret format: a gathering of people united by their passion and skills for filmmaking, during which, ov

er just a few days, teams are formed, scripts are written, filming and editing take place… and at the end everything is screened during special evenings together with the community!
As for the screenings, the KinoAppennino programme includes two production-and-screening sessions, running from Monday to Wednesday and then from Thursday to Saturday. This means that on Wednesday 24 June and Saturday 27 June there will be two public screening evenings of the short films made in the preceding days. Both screenings will take place at 9:30 pm at the open-air theatre in Piazza Zannelli. In addition, anyone local who would like to take an active part in the initiative can join the production teams on Monday 22 June at 9:30 am at the conference hall in Piazza Zannelli.
KinoAppennino is an event organised by Rewilding Apennines, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pettorano sul Gizio, Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Regional Nature Reserve, Cooperativa Valleluna, Rewilding Europe, Sulmona Cinema and Sulmona International Film Festival, CinemAbruzzo, and Associazione Produttori Indipendenti Cortometraggio.
The event is held in collaboration with numerous local partners who provide concrete support for the initiative: Salviamo l’Orso, La Pizzicheria di Costantino, Il Giardinetto di Pettorano, Civico 41, Ristorante Il Torchio, Bar Il Cortile, Bar Ristoro Il Chiosco, B&B La Fantesca, and Azienda Agricola Michele Muraglia, D3C Engineering srl.
