Within the LIFE Bear-Smart Corridors initiative, some partners had the idea to spread the coexistence best practices with the bear through the promotion of high-quality food products from the Central Apennines, all encased within the Bear-Smart Box.
Promoting the gastronomic excellences from the Central Apennines that witness the commitment for protecting the territory where they are produced: the boxes made by the delivery enterprise Broozy bring in the houses the authentic experience of a short, artisanal and high-quality supply chain, without never forget the importance to safeguard the balances that are responsible for those uniqueness.
The Bear-Smart Box is created by Broozy and was born in collaboration with Rewilding Apennines, the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, the Gran Sasso and Monti dell Laga National Park and the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, within the LIFE Bear-Smart Corridors initiative.
The Bear-Smart Box wants to promote the Bear Smart Community model, by encouraging the best practices of coexistence, which protect the Marsican brown bear and support the local nature-based economies. With this purchase, indeed, part of the proceeds will go to the Bear Fund, which was established to finance initiatives aimed at a virtuous coexistence.
The selection of products that are inside this box traces the gradual expansion of the Marsican brown bear. From the ancient forests and the most inaccessible places of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, it began to colonize other territories outside the core area, as the population grew, where it had always lived. Currently, the bear is crossing the ecological corridors, large territories of connection between a protected area and another, such as the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, returning to frequent, as in the past, the vast landscape of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.
If we use these expansion corridors to explore the region, we can thus meet different artisanal businesses: it ranges from raw milk, sheep and goat milk cheeses, which represent one of the oldest nature-based economies of the Central Apennines, up to equally traditional productions that are reworked in a modern key, such as apple-based cider, ratafià, produced with sour cherries and Montepulciano wine, artisanal nougats and mugnoli, a local variety of vegetable.
The products inside the Bear-Smart Box are, therefore, the intimate story of the Central Apennines landscape along a journey made of flavors and knowledge. Starting from a long and deep research with the producers who live in the bear’s country, it was possible to design a box that is a perfect union of the concrete commitment for nature and the great quality of products.
